The 8th Poshan Maah 2025 was launched in Jharkhand with a clear goal – to reduce oil and sugar consumption and to promote the special program called “Paanch Sutra – Golden 1000 Days”.Think of it as a special month where everyone becomes a health superhero! The goal is to help families, especially moms and kids, become stronger and healthier by teaching them about the food they eat. This isn’t just a small project; it’s a huge part of a bigger national mission called Poshan Abhiyaan, which means Nutrition Campaign. So, what’s this all about? Let’s dive in and find out why this is such a big deal!

What is the Campaign About?
The Poshan Maah campaign is part of the Poshan Abhiyaan, which is India’s main program to fight malnutrition. In Jharkhand, this campaign is focused on:
-
Teaching families why too much oil and sugar is harmful.
-
Sharing posters and awareness materials at Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) so people in villages also get the message.
-
Spreading the idea that small lifestyle changes can make children healthier and stronger.
Paanch Sutra – Golden 1000 Days Initiative
Doctors say the first 1000 days of a child’s life (from pregnancy to the child’s second birthday) are the most important for growth. That’s why the government started the Paanch Sutra – Golden 1000 Days program.
This program teaches five key nutrition practices that help:
-
Mothers eat healthy during pregnancy.
-
Babies get proper food in the early years.
-
Families build better eating habits for long-term health.
This step will ensure children are strong, smart, and free from diseases.
What is Poshan Abhiyaan?
Imagine if your school declared a month dedicated to health. There would be posters, fun activities, and lots of learning about how to stay fit. That’s exactly what’s happening all over Jharkhand, but for the whole state! The main focus this year is on two things we all love a little too much: oil and sugar. You know how food tastes great when it’s fried or when we add sugary treats? Well, doctors and health experts have found that eating too much of these things can make people very sick later in life. So, during Poshan Maah, everyone is learning about why it’s important to use less oil when cooking and to eat less sugar.
To spread the message, the government has created colorful posters and pictures. These posters are being sent to places called Anganwadi Centres. These centres are like special care spots for little kids and their mothers in villages and towns. The posters will help the workers there explain to families in a simple way how to make their meals healthier. It’s all about sharing knowledge so that everyone can make better choices!
The Poshan Abhiyaan was launched on 8th March 2018 in Rajasthan. Its main focus is to improve nutrition for:
-
Adolescent girls
-
Pregnant women
-
Breastfeeding mothers
-
Children (0 to 6 years)
Main Goals of Poshan Abhiyaan
The campaign is working to:
-
Stop stunting in children (when kids don’t grow properly).
-
Reduce underweight cases among kids.
-
Lower anaemia among small children, women, and teenage girls.
-
Reduce cases of low birth weight babies.
This shows how serious the government is about making India healthier, starting with mothers and children.
